Fishing

Lake Maud is known primarily as a northern pike, largemouth bass and panfish lake.  There are still suitable spawning habitat for these species. The current (special) regulations on largemouth bass (12-20 inch fish catch and release only) have for all practical purposes made it a catch and release bass lake.  Crappie limit is five and they have to exceed 10 inches in length to be kept. Sunfish limit is five per day.

Northern pike fall under the statewide rules for our region.   Maud’s walleye population is modest and  they do not naturally reproduce on Maud but are stocked by the MN DNR. Walleye limit follows state regulations for our region.   https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind/showstocking.html?downum=03050000&context=desktop.

In 2013, a questionnaire was sent out to residents of Lake Maud asking about fishing habits and what they were interested in improving.  It was determined that people would like to see larger panfish in the lake.  Special fishing requirements were put into effect for Lake Maud that have seemed to make a difference.  https://www.dnr.state.mn.us/lakefind/lake.html?id=03050000

An important thing to know when you  fish on Maud, is that there is spawning bed on the west shore that is marked with bouys early in the spring marked as such.  ‘No fishing is allowed inside the buoys until the spawning season is over’  The DNR removes the markers when the area is open to fishing again.
